German Christmas Market Car Attack Footage: A CCTV footage showed the dramatic moment when a speeding car ploughed into a crowd at a Christmas market in Germany’s Magdeburg, leaving at least two dead and over 60 injured.

The incident, which has been called a deliberate “attack" by the local authorities, occurred at 7:04 PM at the Magdeburg Christmas market, located in the Old Market area near the Town Hall, close to the River Elbe.

The video showed a dark luxury vehicle speeding into a densely packed area, leaving numerous victims sprawled on the ground as bystanders scrambled for safety and turning the festive market into chaos.

The police said that the vehicle drove “at least 400 metres across the Christmas market" leaving behind a trail of bloodied casualties at the city’s central town hall square.

Visuals from the scene showed ambulances and fire engines rushing to the chaotic site, which was doused in blue emergency lights with sirens wailing.

Premier of the state of Saxony-Anhalt Reiner Haseloff said that one of the victims was a young child. “It is a catastrophe for the city of Magdeburg, for the state and for Germany in general," Haseloff added.

He noted that the death toll could rise given the severity of some of the injuries. Haseloff further described the attacker as a 50-year-old male doctor from Saudi Arabia with permanent residency in Germany, where he had lived for almost two decades.

‘Something Bad About To Happen’

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who sent his thoughts to those affected in a post on social media platform X, said that the Magdeburg incident suggests that “something bad is about to happen."

Scholz, who is expected to visit the scene on Saturday with Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, said, “My thoughts are with the victims and their families. We stand by their side and by the side of the people of Magdeburg. My thanks go to the dedicated rescue workers in these anxious hours."

Reacting to the incident, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, allied with US President-elect Donald Trump, criticised Scholz and called on him to resign, according to a report by Reuters.

The local media reports claimed that a police investigation has been launched in the town of Bernburg, south of Magdeburg, where the suspect is believed to have lived.
