Ecologists Anne & Mark inform you about the Fish Doorbell

It's over again, the Fish Door season of 2024. And what a special season it was! Thanks to your efforts and those of thousands of other people from all over the world, thousands of fish have passed through the lock.

Unlike previous years, this spring was very wet and cold. This caused the water to remain murky until the end. It was also noticeable that the fish migration started later. However, we soon saw beautiful schools of large roaches swimming past in March.

The most common fish species this year were perch, roach, and bream. Surprisingly, we also saw a lot of carp, pike-perch, and eel this year. Much more than last year. We also spotted catfish swim by four times this year.

In total, there have been 2.7 million unique visitors to the Fish Doorbell. Most people came from the United States, United Kingdom, and Brazil. We were able to talk about the Fish Doorbell all over the world. And with that, many people have been able to get acquainted with the wonderful underwater world of the Netherlands.
