The team of the Navada Excise and Production Department seized a consignment of heavily codenamed banned cough syrup being brought in a mini truck from West Bengal to Jharkhand. During a late Tuesday evening inspection of vehicles at the check post in Govindpur district on the Jharkhand border, cough syrup was seized from a mini truck. The driver of the vehicle along with a smuggler was arrested at the scene. In the search process, two hundred cartons of cough syrup named Viskof, containing codenamed codeine, were seized from the mini truck. 100 bottles of 100 ml each were found in each carton. The total quantity of seized cough syrup is estimated to be around 2000 liters, valued at approximately 25 lakh in the open market. The truck with registration number WB 19 JE 9364 has been confiscated. It is reported that Superintendent of Excise Arun Kumar Mishra received information about the consignment of alcohol or other banned items coming through the Govindpur check post. Acting on the tip-off, a thorough inspection of vehicles coming from Jharkhand was being conducted under the leadership of ASI Dinesh Kumar.

The identification of the truck driver along with the smuggler has been done in the form of Akhilesh Rai, son of Dharmanath Rai of Askaarpur Ward number 08 of Sarai Thana in Vaishali district. During interrogation, he told the team that he was given a delivery of cough syrup from Kolkata, which was supposed to be unloaded in Patna. According to Akhilesh Rai, the cough syrup was given to him for delivery by Manoj Rai, son of Vishwanath Rai of Bhagwanpur Thana in Vaishali district.

20 pieces of bills found in the truck

A bill for 20 pieces of cough syrup has been recovered from the truck. Billing for 100 liters, meaning 10 cartons of cough syrup, has been done. All bills are in the name of Anand Drug Agency in Begusarai district. In this case, under appropriate sections, driver and smuggler Akhilesh Rai, loader of cough syrup Manoj Rai, and Anand Drug Agency are being charged at the Utpad Thana in Begusarai.
