Chhapra. With the approach of Holi, the smuggling of alcohol and intoxicating drugs has increased in Bihar. The former magistrate of Chhapra, along with the production department and the STF team, jointly raided and seized two containers. It contained approximately 75 lakh worth of cough syrup used in the drug group and 25 lakh worth of alcohol.
The cough syrup was hidden inside the potato sacks. However, the product department team conducted a search through the scanner on the ferry post. Confirmation of alcohol was found, and upon further investigation, intoxicating drugs and alcohol were seized from inside. The police have arrested two people at the scene, who are being interrogated.
1 crore cough syrup and foreign liquor seized
Product manager Rajneesh Kumar said that in view of Holi, intensive checking of all vehicles coming from outside is being done on all borders. During this, the former production department and the team of the Excise Department were jointly checking all vehicles. During this, two containers coming from UP were stopped for inspection. When checked from inside, it was confirmed that there was liquor inside the container.
When the container was opened, it contained a large quantity of foreign liquor along with banned cough syrup. The estimated market value of seized foreign liquor and banned cough syrup is around one crore. Both arrested individuals are being interrogated, and efforts are being made to identify their accomplice.
Increased surveillance on the border of Uttar Pradesh in view of Holi
Product Inspector Rajneesh Kumar mentioned that surveillance has been increased in the river near the Uttar Pradesh border in view of Holi, and the police have achieved significant success in the river in recent days. Additionally, several cases of liquor smuggling have been exposed. Moreover, vehicles transporting alcohol on the road are being caught through scanners.
Product manager Rajneesh Kumar has described the seizure of foreign liquor and intoxicating drugs worth nearly a crore as a major success. He said that liquor is purchased at low prices from Uttar Pradesh and sold in Bihar at higher prices. This has led to a significant increase in smuggling. However, the Product Department has dismantled the networks of smugglers through scanners.
The inspection campaign has been intensified in view of Holi. Intensive checking is being done on all borders adjoining Uttar Pradesh. As a result, a large consignment of illicit liquor is being seized.
